3D Substation Designer

We are currently seeking an experienced 3D Substation Designer to join our team, in our Beamsville, ON office. This position is office based.

The 3D Substation Designer’s primary responsibility is to provide 3D design capability for substation designs. This work will be done in conjunction with the electrical and P&C design team for Substation and Industrial plants.


  • Develop detailed 3D models of high voltage substations including layouts, cable/conduit routing and grounding using Autodesk Inventor, Substation Design Suite (SDS) – Physical.
  • Participate in the design of underground duct banks.
  • Produce detailed bills of material (BOM) based on 3D models.
  • Further the development of our internal library of substation design components.
  • Participates in the development of design procedures and standards.
  • Perform substation and plant lightning, lighting and Bus design calculations/analysis based on 3D models.
  • Ability to work with raw 3D scan data.


  • You have experience with Substation Design Suite (SDS) – Physical.
  • Preferably 3+ years work experience in 3D substation design.
  • Associate or full certified member of the Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists (CET) preferred but not mandatory.
  • Knowledge of Electrical, Mechanical or Civil aspects of substation design is required.
  • Familiarity with developing substation structures, P&C building design, general arrangements, section views and bill of materials.
  • Ability to conduct lightning, lighting, and Bus design calculations/analysis.
  • The ability to complete assignments independently and with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills.
