Divisional Controller

Anticipated Start Date: Immediately
Type of Position: Full Time, Permanent or Contract
Reports to: Chief Financial Officer

THE POSITION

The primary responsibility of the Controller is to oversee all accounting operations of the PowerTel division. Working closely with the Chief Financial Officer, the Controller will encompass the day-to-day operations of the divisional finance department; including completing month end close, bank and financial reporting, A/P, and A/R as well as the development of internal control policies and procedures, including financial risk management accounting and budgeting in order to maintain the accounting records and financial reporting for PowerTel.  Enhance and ensure that reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles (ASPE).

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conducts financial statement review
  • Maintains GAAP/ASPE compliance
  • Supports sales & weekly cash flow projections
  • Calculates rental purchase options
  • Analyses variance for FS & monthly Flash reporting
  • Performs Job cost analysis (reporting to PM’s)
  • Prepares BMO/Aviva work on hand reports
  • Provides financial information for tenders
  • Manages and trains accounting staff
  • Acts as final approval for A/R invoicing
  • Coordinates major project documents
  • Prepares statutory declarations
  • Reviews annual reports – T4, WCB, EHT
  • Oversees HST & Corporate tax remittances
  • Approves and signs cheque runs
  • Prepares the financial statement workbook, reviews SR&ED claims, conducts pricing analysis and other financial duties as required for affiliate company, PowerTraxx Vehicles Inc. and,
  • Adheres to all company workplace policies, standards, procedures, and safe work practices; and,
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

CANDIDATE PROFILE:

  • Completion of a CPA accounting designation;
  • Minimum 5 years of progressive accounting related experience ;
  • Proficiency with Excel and Microsoft applications, including working with macro enabled workbooks;
  • Detail oriented and ability to work both independently and in a group setting;
  • Ability to effectively manage competing priorities in order to meet deadlines;
  • Knowledge of Sage (Timberline) software would be an asset; and,
  • Experience in the construction and/or electrical industry and percentage completion accounting would be considered an asset.
