Fleet Manager


Reporting directly to the Director, Fleet and Facilities the primary responsibility of the Fleet Manager is to lead Fleet Operations for Cormorant Utility Services.


  • Working with the Director develop and implement a business plan to set up Fleet as a stand-alone, independent and viable cost center, increase utilization of all Fleet equipment and ensure Fleet operations are cash positive.
  • Assist with creating operating budget and implement a plan to ensure success for stand alone P&L center
  • Responsible for detailed cost tracking of revenue and expenses for all Fleet and associated facilities.
  • Maintain relationships with outside vendors, ensuring the company is receiving best pricing on all Capital purchases, parts and outside maintenance required.
  • Development of Annual Capital Plan for Fleet Operations in consultation with Director-Evaluate useful life expectancy of all existing equipment and develop a plan for replenishment.
  • Coordinate divestment of surplus equipment
  • Manage a team of employees charged with the duty of maintaining trucks and Equipment, coordinating inside rentals as required and ensuring compliance with all required standards.
  • Coordinate with third party service providers as may be required periodically
  • Ensure maintenance and upkeep of shop, building and yard (clean and organized).
  • Ensure all Fleet equipment documentation is complete (insurance, licenses, permits, registration, etc.) and that equipment is compliant with all regulations.
  • Ensure Fleet is in good repair and inspected as per MOL, NSC, MTO, and EUSA standards.
  • Ensure all employees receive necessary training for all equipment and safe working techniques.
  • Ensure compliance from all operators, through all divisions within the corporate structure.
  • Create and implement corporate policies as required to ensure compliance with all applicable jurisdictions


  • 5+ years of related experience in Fleet Operations, CVOR management
  • 5+ year of related experience in labour relations (union atmosphere preferred)
  • Experience with both on road and construction equipment an asset
  • Ability to create, implement and assess an effective business plan and present this plan to senior management
  • Proficiency in Microsoft office, particularly in Excel
  • Knowledge and understanding of industry best practices and industry equipment
  • Excellent problem solving skills, able to work well under pressure and adapt to field requirements as they arise to ensure project timelines are maintained
  • Must be willing to travel and work out of remote locations as required.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills are a must!
