Board of Directors

Damian Kulasingham

President of EPTCON, PowerTel, OneLine Engineering and PowerTraxx

Damian has over 23 years of experience in project development and execution, organizational turnarounds, market growth and diversification strategies.

Prior to joining Cormorant, Damian held senior executive roles at SNC-Lavalin and General Electric where he was responsible for the development and execution of over $8.5 billion in PPP and EPC projects within Canada, Asia, Middle East and Africa in the energy and public infrastructure sectors.

Damian is responsible for leading Cormorant’s growth strategy as well as overseeing operations at EPTCON, PowerTel, OneLine Engineering and PowerTraxx.

Stan Spavold

FCA & Executive Vice President of Clearwater Fine Foods Incorporated (CFFI)

Stan has been part of a small team at CFFI, a diversified holding company with major holdings including Seafood, Telecommunications and Biotechnology. CFFI has over $2.3 billion of assets under management.

Working alongside the President of CFFI, Stan provides financial management and executive oversight at Clearwater.

Stan was previously at McCain Foods Limited for 15 years as a senior financial officer. Stan has extensive public board experience and is currently serving on the board of Clearwater Seafoods Limited as Chairman of their finance committee and member of the governance and audit committees.

Stan has also served in various leadership roles on the Board of Directors of several public and private companies.

In February 2011 Stan received the FCA honorary designation from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nova Scotia.

He is active in a member of not-for-profit organizations in his community, having served as a Governor of Dalhousie University, Chairman of The Cobequid Hospital Foundation and Governor of the Tax Foundation of Canada.

Brendan Paddick

Chairman of Cormorant Capital Corporation, a private investment company

Brendan Paddick is the founder and former chairman and chief executive officer of Columbus International Inc., a diversified telecommunications company based in Barbados. Columbus provided digital cable television, broadband Internet and digital landline telephone throughout the Caribbean under the brand name FLOW and next generation connectivity and IT solutions, managed networking, cloud-based services, wholesale capacity, IP services and data center hosting throughout 42 countries in the greater Caribbean, Central American and Andean region under the brand, Columbus Networks.

In March 2015, Columbus merged with Cable & Wireless Communications PLC in a transaction that valued Cormorant at over CDN $4.4 billion (US$3.3 billion). Mr. Paddick holds a Bachelor of Commerce and a Master of Business Administration from Memorial University of Newfoundland and graduated from the Advanced Management Program at Harvard University.

Mr. Paddick has extensive capital market experience and was selected as one of Canada’s Top 40 under 40 in 2000. He was named Ernst & Young’s Atlantic Canadian Business-to-Business Entrepreneur of the Year in 2011, is a member of the Atlantic Business Hall of Fame and was honoured as Memorial University’s Alumnus of the Year in 2013.

John Risley

Chairman and President of CFFI Ventures Inc.

John Risley is the Chairman and President of CFFI Ventures Inc., an active investment/holding company with major investments in Seafood Harvesting and Processing (Clearwater Seafoods Limited), telecommunications, biotechnology, software development, life sciences, financial services, waste management and energy development, construction, generation, and distribution.

Mr. Risley serves on the Board of Directors of several private, not-for-profit, and public companies including Clearwater Seafoods and Futurpreneur Canada.

Mr. Risley was named an Officer of the Order of Canada and was inducted into the Nova Scotia Junior Achievement Business Hall of Fame in 1997. A renowned entrepreneur and public policy advocate, Mr. Risley has received numerous awards including Atlantic Canadian Entrepreneur of the Year and a Canada Award for Business Excellence in Entrepreneurship. He is a graduate of Harvard University’s President’s Program and Leadership.
