PowerTel makes the well-being of our employees a top priority. Our con-tinuing education program ensures that each employee has the knowledge it takes to stay safe in a high-risk industry. Through our own training facilities, and those of our training partners, our employees are well equipped to operate under our strict safety procedures.
We provide training throughout an employee’s career, including:
With an aging population comes an increase in retirement figures. As our workforce retires, the need for quality training—in the field and in the classroom—becomes a must.
PowerTel has always taken pride in the quality of groundmen, equipment operators, and linemen that result from our investment in on-the-job training programs and in-class courses. The employees we train become experienced, qualified, knowledgeable, and informed enough to make the right decisions in any situation.
In 2006 Dean Gatien, PowerTel’s Vice President, and Clary Gatien, PowerTel’s former President, brought forward to Cambrian College in Sudbury the concept of a college program designed to train Powerline Technician Apprentices. With investments from PowerTel including donations, employee time, and equipment, the Powerline Technician program has to date produced roughly 250 graduates, most of whom now hold full-time positions across Canada and into the United States.
In 2013, another program heavily supported by PowerTel was launched for the Aboriginal community. The Line Crew Ground Support Program is a 15 week course offered by IHSA. It includes both classroom and field work components, and is designed to prepare individuals for integration into employment opportunities in the Power Line sector.
The first group of students started their courses in August, 2013. PowerTel is proud to be investing in training aboriginal students to one day be part of our trade.
